About Abigail

A Little Background

Abigail Steidley - AnamsongI grew up in Wyoming, studied music at the University of Wyoming, and began a career as a violin teacher.  When my husband, Scott, was a Naval officer in the Civil Engineer Corps, he and I lived in Florida, South Carolina, California, and finally, Virginia Beach, Virginia, where we settled for four years.  While in Virginia, I read Finding Your North Star, by Martha Beck.  My own North Star beckoned, and when Scott and I decided to return to Wyoming, I enrolled with Martha Beck Inc. as a student of life coaching, eventually becoming a Master Certified Coach.

Dealing with Pelvic Pain

In between all of those normal life events, I went through a major life upheaval.  I struggled with a few pelvic pain syndromes: interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, and pelvic floor dysfunction. You can read more about my story on the Pain Relief page. As you might imagine, at first I was pretty much slammed by the pain and other symptoms, and spiraled down into a nasty depression.  The symptoms grew for years before they were even diagnosed. Upon the diagnoses, I found that traditional medicine had little to offer for me in terms of pain relief and truly returning to health.

Becoming a Mind-Body Coach

As a result, I embarked on a new and exciting journey into mind-body healing.  I read books, talked to people, and experimented.  Guess what – it worked!  Obviously happy to have been released from the pain, the cycles of despair, and the stress, I spent a couple of years enjoying my new-found health. In the back of my mind, I couldn’t stop thinking about the incredible power of mind-body healing, and found myself reading about it for fun. Then I felt pulled to become a Martha Beck Coach. Two months into training, it hit me like a ton of bricks – a true AHA moment.  I knew I was meant to teach mind-body healing to other people with pelvic pain issues, and coaching was the perfect way to do so.  Suddenly I knew why I had felt called to become a coach!  It all became clear.

Weight Loss, Stress Relief and More

During my journey to health, I discovered the power of the mind-body connection and its far-reaching benefits.  Having spent much of my twenties over fifty pounds overweight, I was tired of struggling with guilt around food, obsessing about what to eat or not to eat, and hating my body.  Though my focus was primarily pain relief, in working with my mind and body together, I learned how to team up my brain with my body to lose weight. Having spent the last ten years at my natural weight, I am happy to be so clear around food and body image.

Even more, I no longer feel constant anxiety and stress. Discovering mind-body wisdom completely transformed my life, allowing me to create not only health, but fantastic relationships with my mind, emotions, body, soul, husband, parents, and friends. I am no longer the shy, afraid, tense person of my twenties.  I have blossomed into a strong, confident, comfortable, relaxed, and much more fun woman!  For this reason, I am thankful for the pain, startling as it sounds. It gave me an incredible learning experience that led to a complete transformation, and for that I am very grateful.

Completely Random Tidbits about Me

  • I love to hike, spend time outside, and get lost in books. (I might have  a small book addiction.)
  • I love coaching, teaching, and mentoring other coaches!
  • My dog, Jackson, is totally awesome! And adorable. (He’s a Bichon Frise.)
  • I love to play Irish fiddle with my husband, who plays guitar.

  • I could not live without my hair-waver. It’s a Hot Tools Deep Waver, and wherever I go, women always ask where they can get one, too. I always joke that I should be a rep for the company. Well, now you can grab your very own waver through my Amazon affiliate link (click the picture of the waver), should you, too, long for wavy hair! (Seriously, I do not know why I wasn’t born with wavy hair. It’s the real me.) Wondering how to use it? Here’s a how-to video.
  • My alter ego is a spy. One of my favorite childhood books is Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh. Harriet inspired me to be far more curious and investigative when it came to understanding my body’s signals and my inner wisdom. She also started me on a lifelong addiction to spy novels, movies, and TV shows.

My Spiritual Journey

Learning how to embrace and strengthen my mind-body-soul relationship went far beyond a physical healing journey. It awakened a spiritual connection inside me that I’d never known before. I embarked on meditation, energy healing, channeling, Angel work, and other “woo” experiences. In the end, this spiritual aspect of my mind-body journey has brought me the most joy, peace, and contentment.

That’s exactly why I created anamsong. I have a deep and abiding love for Celtic spirituality, Irish music, and helping others hear their soul messages. It seemed fitting to weave all these parts of my soul song together to create a business that embraces all parts of me. I like to blend practicality with spirituality, common-sense with “woo.” I think that’s the secret formula for happiness.
